LuxConnect, the Luxembourg Government’s ICT enabler recently hosted the first coherent 100G service testing on LuxConnect’s own DWDM network. The test was run by LuxConnect's partner KPN International with transponder cards and hardware being supplied by Huawei out of its OSN product range.
The 100G test was run for more than 24 hours on LuxConnect’s Luxembourg-Amsterdam fibre link, over a distance exceeding 500km. With Huawei's underlying 100G technology, 100G services become more adapted to fiber transmission. Services can be transmitted at a higher rate over a longer distance. At an astonishing transmission rate of eight Tb/s, it takes only one second to download 240 DVD movies, each of which is two hours long.
Edouard Wangen, CEO of LuxConnect, welcomed the positive test results as another milestone in LuxConnect’s recent history and expressed his conviction that 100G testing and implementation will become a standard in the industry to differentiate in an increasingly competitive environment.
